Last night I made my way home after an amazing evening with friends who have, through grace, become family. The cold Autumn darkness wrapped itself around me, Kings of Convenience filled my ears with sounds of endless summer and somewhere inside of me a flicker of joy was fanned to flame. In this moment I really understood what Nehemiah meant.
As we head into the weekend a couple of thoughts on joy:
The deeper that sorrow carves into your being the more joy you can contain. Is not the cup that holds your wine the very cup that was burned in the potter’s oven? – Kahlil Gibran
Joy is the holy fire that keeps our purpose warm and our intelligence aglow. – Helen Keller
Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep choosing it every day. – Henri Nouwen
