I had a conversation last night that reminded me just how invigorating an exchange of ideas and, more importantly, questions can be. Naguib Mahfouz said, “You can tell whether a man is clever by his answers. You can tell whether a man is wise by his questions.” That is exactly what set this conversation apart: I found myself in a situation where someone was asking questions that really made me stop, think and formulate – it was wonderful. I really like Pierre Abelard’s take on it: “The beginning of wisdom is found in doubting; by doubting we come to the question, and by seeking we may come upon the truth.”
