light of mine

Viktor E. Frankl said: “What is to give light must endure burning.” I have always hoped to be someone who gives light and lets myself be used up for something that is greater than the sum of my parts.

I will be traveling to South Africa in the coming days to soak up some sunshine and hopefully get some ย perspective on 2011 but also my (almost) first three years living in Berlin. As what has been a whirlwind year draws to a close I am grateful to have a breather and reconnect with some people who have known me, well, forever. I have shared this quote before but I thought I would share it again as it captures one of the key experiences that I had this year: “Sometimes our light goes out but is blown into flame by another human being. Each of us owes deepest thanks to those who have rekindled this light” (Albert Schweitzer). I am immensely grateful to my friends, old and new, who have time and again rekindled the flame in me with the love, grace and truth that they have shown me.

I will be away until the end of December but will be sure to return with a refreshed mind, some more reflections on 2011 and a couple of lovely pics of the south to share.

Wishing you a blessed Christmas time and a good transition into the new year.
