The Spanish playwright, orator and philosopher, Lucius Annaeus Seneca, said, “Life is warfare.” I know, I know! As soon as one starts talking about war people get up in arms (please forgive the pun), but there is a great deal to be said for fighting against apathy, passivity and the distractions that pull our focus away from the things we have been created to accomplish.
Maximilian Kolbe puts it well: “The real conflict is inner conflict. Beyond armies of occupation and the catacombs of concentration camps, there are two irreconcilable enemies in the depth of every soul: good and evil, sin and love. And what use are victories on the battle-field if we ourselves are defeated in our innermost personal selves?”
Know your enemy and know yourself and you can fight a hundred battles without disaster. – Sun Tzu
