I have no idea who said it but it perfectly captures my Wednesday evening: “Sometimes you put walls up not to keep people out, but to see who cares enough to break them down.”
My sister came over to my place last night – upon my request no less – only to find me in a foul mood trying to assemble furniture (to those of you who know me you can already see that this is bound to end badly). After calling me on my mood, she skipped past a well deserved talking to and in so doing reminded me why she is one of my best friends. She was, in every sense, the Christopher Robin to my Winnie the Pooh as she encouraged me to always remember that I’m braver than I believe, stronger than I seem, and smarter than I think. In short she saw the walls I was putting up and she said, “These have got to go.”
What started out as a disasterous scene littered with various parts of a bookshelf, a cabinet and an atmosphere thick with the unsaid turned into a beautifully invigorating reminder that life is always better together.
