open up the sky

Dear Rain,

I yearned

for you to fall

and break

the heat’s reign.

At first you sent

a breeze,

a gentle

but clear

messenger of relief.

The heat was

stirred,

then shaken,

as lightning danced

through the sky

followed by

thunder’s

victory cry.

Pioneer splashes

collided with

my arms,

hands

and cheeks.

I looked up

at the heavy skies

and welcomed

their release.
